Spotify Brings Live Audio Shows to Main App and Rebranding Greenroom to Spotify Live
Spotify Greenroom rose from the acquisition of the Locker Room which was a sports focused social audio app.
Spotify rebranded the app as Spotify Greenroom and started to appeal to musicians, podcasters, and other audio creators on Spotify.
Now Spotify is planning on rebranding Greenroom to Spotify Live and adding Spotify Live to it's main app thus doubling down on live audio and social audio.
Spotify is integrating the live audio capabilities of Greenroom to the main Spotify App.
When it launches on the Spotify Main App only select original programming will be shared as Spotify Live content. Spotify Live will still be a stand alone app rebranded from Greenroom where creators can go live as well. So being featured as live content through Spotify Live capabilities on the Spotify app will only be available to a select few like Bill Simmons.
So live content will be on the Spotify main app and Spotify Live app, but Spotify does state there will be a few differences. Spotify Live will still have the same features as Greenroom, but if you're listening to live content on the Spotify app, the interactive features within the Spotify Live app like audience questions will not be available.
Spotify will choose to live stream their own original content with the power to reach 400+ million Spotify listeners.
So no additional value to independent podcasters currently, but imagine the potential if categories are created and the ability to have live streaming shows on the Spotify app of not only Spotify original shows. The potential there for exponential growth is vast if somehow this opens up to non Spotify specific programming. Perhaps adding additional value to having shows hosted on Anchor as well. Opening a way to be featured if a show is an Anchor hosted podcast could be huge for the growth of a show.
